UVR Lab. was formed
in Feb. 2001 at GIST to study and develop “Virtual Reality in Smart
computing environments” that process multimodal input, perceive
user’s intention and emotion, and respond to user’s request through
Augmented Reality. Since 2012, UVR Lab moved to KAIST GSCT and restarted
with a theme of “FUN in Ubiquitous VR.”

Enhancing Immersiveness in AR-based Product Design
Recently, various AR-based product design methodologies have been introduced. We propose technologies for enhancing immersive realization of virtual objects. By adapting the tangible object it can provide touch sensation to the users. A 3D model overlay whole area of the tangible object as same scale so marker area is invisible. It contributes enhancing immersion. Also the hand occlusion problem under changing lighting condition partially solved that occurs when the virtual objects overlay the user's hands. It provides more immersive or natural images to the users. Finally, by enabling the multimodal interaction, users can have more immersion. In our works, vibratory haptic cues by page motors proposed, also sound feedback is considered. In our scenario, a game-phone model is selected to demonstrate that the users can control the direction of the car in the racing game by tilting a tangible object with hands. Simultaneously, the proposed augmented haptic, hands occlusion-reduced visual effect and sound feedback are provided to the users. The proposed methodologies will be contributed to the immersive realization of the conventional AR system.
