Callum Parker is a Lecturer in Interaction Design at the Urban Interfaces Lab within the University of Sydney. Callum's research seeks to gain a new understanding of how interactive digital city interfaces can work for everyone, of all shapes and sizes, and abilities. His work is also dedicated to exploring the evolving concept of "public space" in the Metaverse and understanding how diverse people can engage with it. Callum utilises cutting-edge technologies, including pervasive displays and augmented, virtual, and mixed realities.
Urban environments are becoming increasingly digital, blurring the boundaries between physical and virtual public spaces. Individuals may experience entirely different interactions within the same environment, as personalized digital content becomes embedded in physical spaces. This talk explores how the Metaverse can serve as a tool for studying urban technologies, providing new ways to prototype, test, and analyse digital interactions in both tangible cityscapes and virtual environments. Drawing on my past deployments of public displays, I will discuss how we can gain insights into diverse user interactions with technology in urban settings. At the same time, the Metaverse presents an opportunity to extend these studies into virtual public spaces, enabling controlled experimentation, safer participation, and the rapid exploration of new ideas—particularly in fostering more inclusive and accessible urban interactions.

Lecturer in Interaction Design, University of Sydney
Dr. Soojeong Yoo is a Lecturer in Design at The University of Sydney's School of Architecture, Design and Planning and an Honorary Scholar at University College London, United Kingdom. She is the Director of the Health and Immersive Interaction (HII) Lab at Western Sydney Local Health District. Her research focuses on human factors in healthcare, with a particular emphasis on designing immersive interactive health technologies (VR/AR/MR) for clinical and workplace settings, as well as promoting wellbeing through technology integrated into everyday life.
As immersive technologies like AR/VR become more accessible, their applications in fields such as education, fitness, and healthcare continue to grow. In this talk, I will present my research on user modeling and human factors in digital health, focusing on designing effective user experiences for mixed-reality surgical training, VR-based exercise, and clinical usability.
I will highlight key challenges and insights, including cognitive load, situational awareness, and user engagement, and discuss the broader implications for integrating immersive technologies into real-world healthcare settings.
